From the very beginning, Ria’s partnership with Save the Children has had the objective of driving positive change and improving the lives of vulnerable children worldwide. The NGO has more than 100 years of experience and is present in 118 countries, which allows the projects we support to reach far and wide. The partnership also furthers Ria’s efforts to expand its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which aims to thoroughly integrate social concerns into its global strategy.
Following last year’s success, we are excited to continue our work with Save the Children in Mexico and the Philippines in 2023 with the projects “Early Childhood Education” and “Sustainable Early Education and Development for Children”.
The “Early Childhood Education” project in Mexico
In Mexico, Ria contributes to the education of 2,535 vulnerable children between the ages of 0 and 6 years old. A continuation of the “Words that Emerge” project Ria sponsored in 2022, this year’s project has been expanded to benefit almost 500 more children than last year.
The project benefits families living in vulnerable low-income neighborhoods in Mexico City and the State of Mexico. The collaborative effort of Save the Children Mexico and the Early Childhood Development Centers (CCDIs), sponsored by Ria, supports parents of infants and young children who don’t have any type of social security and lack the funds to pay for private daycare. For parents without a trusted friend or relative to watch their children during the workday, CCDIs offer a supportive space for their children to learn, play, and be cared for while they are away from home.
The objective of the project is for girls and boys to have access to quality education in safe and protected spaces from their first years of life.
To achieve this, Ria will fund training materials for preschool teachers and educators and learning materials and workbooks for children to improve literacy and math skills. Our sponsorship also safeguards children by creating safe spaces for them to learn, offers training and educational support to 1,080 parents and caregivers, and strengthens the technical and pedagogical capacity of 65 teachers.
The “Sustainable Early Education and Development for Children” project in the Philippines
In the Philippines, Ria helps improve access to early childhood care and development for 1,000 children from 3 to 8 years old, including children with disabilities and indigenous children, in Antipolo.
The Philippines ranks 1st in the World Risk Index 2022 as the country most affected by extreme weather events. Save the Children’s project focuses its efforts on Antipolo, in the Philippines’ Rizal Province, an area particularly affected by the climate crisis. Antipolo is often subject to extreme weather events such as floods and landslides, which affect the safety and security of almost 900,000 people. Young children are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of these climate disasters, which can lead to malnutrition, health issues, and loss of life. The crisis in Antipolo often means that kids miss out on school, which disrupts their early education and leaves parents and caregivers with the burden of educating children informally and often without support.
To support the families in Antipolo, Ria is funding the design and distribution of inclusive, play-based, climate-sensitive, and resilience-building learning resources. We are also funding community awareness campaigns and the distribution of learning kits for child development centers, schools, and families. In addition to children, this project will also benefit parents and caregivers, who get the help they need to engage with young kids and more effectively instruct about climate-related topics, so that kids are better prepared for possible future emergencies.
Inclusive and consistent access to quality education is fundamental for children to prosper and build a future ripe with opportunities.
Ria also collaborates with Save the Children throughout the year to support emergency appeals aimed at providing relief to communities suffering urgent humanitarian crises, such as the “Hunger Crisis Moment of Action” campaign in October of 2022, which responded to the threat of food insecurity around the world.
At Ria, we are committed to making positive contributions in our communities and to do so we actively incorporate social responsibility into our corporate strategy. We believe every person is important and do our part to empower them to achieve their dreams.
